A workshop on online publishing for weekly newspapers is being held in London in November.

The one-day event, organised by Press Association Training, is aimed specifically at weekly newspapers who want to develop their services into platforms outside of print.

Director of PA Training, Peter Sands, said: "Weekly papers, serving a concentrated community, have a great deal to gain from offering a comprehensive and professional online service ... but often they fall behind their daily cousins. Some of this is down to resources but other factors play a big role too.
"This seminar will allay the fears and equip weekly paper executives with the understanding, tools and practical skills they need to offer first class online services.

The workshop will include:
The state of the industry. Who is doing what; the best ideas; what works ... and what doesn't.
Content that sells ... how to grow an audience using online, audio and SMS messaging.
The business plan ... how to make sure your move to online is part of a strategic plan.
Video: How to do it professionally; the kit; the method, the training ... and the reasoning behind it.
The financial model ... how to make money online.
Community news – the opportunities and the mistakes.
User Generated Content – and how it could work for you.
The do's and don'ts of online publishing.
Writing for the web.
The law and the web. The legal differences between publishing in print and online.
What will be left of the newspaper – a look at the future of print.

The workshop, which includes specialists from the newspaper and oinline industries, is being held at The Press Association offices in London on Monday November 26. The cost is £350 per delegate.
